The exchange is owned by stockbroking firms, who together with the exchanges listed companies and funds are levied for its upkeep. Trading on the Exchange is primarily conducted in the equities and Government bond markets on the ISE Xetra trading platform and EuroMTS platform respectively. The Exchange is regulated by the Financial Regulator.

The published index of shares is known as the ISEQ Overall Index (Irish Stock Exchange Quotient).

The ISEQ is the official price indices of the Irish Stock Exchange and includes 55 companies that must be incorporated in the Republic of Ireland, or be incorporated in Northern Ireland, or have its centre of economic interest in Ireland.
